We are 73 and 77 years old and in good shape and arriving from the USA at 6:30 AM. I am wondering if we should take the train to Paddington and then a taxi to the hotel or if we should just spurge and take a taxi all the way to the hotel. We will each have a medium suitcase and a "Carry on "bag.

A private car service will be much cheaper than a taxi. Many people on this site recommend Just Airports. They give a discount for paying cash.

Pre arranged car service seems to be the general recommendation these days for convenience.
If you were happy & able to handle bags in the underground, then the route is fairly straight forward - Piccadilly line to Piccadilly Circus then Bakerloo Line to Charing Cross Trafalgar Sq exit.
An intermediate alternative - Piccadilly line to Green Park and a taxi from there. This route has no stairs to negotiate.

Check out the cost for the car service - see www.justairports.com. I think if you compare the cost of the car service to the cost of 2 tickets on the Heathrow express (very expensive) + a taxi from Paddington to the hotel, there's not going to be a lot of difference in price. Car service worth it for the convenience.

It looks like Just Airports will give you a set price, so you don't have to worry about running up a taxi meter when stuck in traffic. Save your energy for the sightseeing!

My family has the same question. Does anyone know if Just Airports picks up at the curb or at security? I'd love to find a service that would pick my parents up as they leave customs/security. Didn't want to start a new thread if I could get the answer here - thank you!!
