Because of our advanced years, we've decided to bypass the rail/bus/underground transportation after our lengthy flight, and attempt to find shuttle or shared ride service directly to our hotel. In his 2013 London guide, Rick suggested the Heathrow Shuttle. Is that still the best (there seems to be a Heathrow Shuttle Limited now) or are there other options? Thanks so much.
Other option is the car service justairports.com. For 2 of you looking for convenience and comfort the cost isn't too bad. IMO small splurge worth it after coming off a transatlantic flight.
We are also active retireees - Here is some additional information which might help you as you compare costs for different options: We took a black cab early last Saturday morning from Charing Cross Station taxi stand to LHR terminal 3. The driver put our bags in the cab and removed them at the airport without our even asking :) , the trip took 35 minutes, and it cost 60 pounds. He was friendly and told us lots of little bits about London tourist sites and politics. We gave him a 10 pound tip and considered the cost of the ride pounds well spent.
I would do what the first responder said and use Just Airports. For two people it is worth it. They were on time and have you to your destination quicker than any other way. We got to our destination in Kensington way ahead of schedule, which was worth it. You don't have to screw around with your luggage and change trains or get a taxi. They were on time for the pickup as well.
Thanks- Bill
You can contact "Blacklane.com". They are very reputable and are all over the world. Notify them of your flight information. The driver will meet you as you pick up your luggage. The driver will help you with your luggage and take you to your car. The driver will take you and only you two, to your hotel in South Kensington. We have stayed at the Crowne Plaza in South Kensington, three times. We were very happy there. We just used "Blacklane" in Hong Kong, Japan and Singapore. We will use them again when we go back to London.
Shared ride firms struggle in London - there have been a couple of well-financed companies that have tried and not lasted long, although there is always someone having a go. There isn't much cost space between public transport and private hire cars for them to survive in.
