Best route London City Airport to Heathrow and queue times at LHR T3

Trying to plan the best route to get from London City to Heathrow. Train, tube, taxi, or private driver? Also if taking a taxi it will be pricy but any ideas how expensive? One last question - how bad are the checkin and security lines at Terminal 3 LHR at 6:00 am on a Tuesday? Had planned to fly out of CDG but COVID derailed tour plans and have to go home via LHR.

Thanks for any assistance.

I'd say the train.

But, are you trying to self connect from London City to Heathrow? That seems risky.

That depends on when you're going. Airlines and airport management have claimed that the crisis currently impacting airports will only get worse during the summer holiday season particularly once schools break up.

Logically the Elizabeth Line would work well, but not in this case.

The Elizabeth Line doesn't start until 06:30 weekdays at this point so you can't get to Heathrow by 6am.

The tube doesn't start until around 05:30 so that can't work either, even if you skip the DLR.

Rubber tyres on the highway I'm afraid.

No idea of cost, but it won't be cheap.

You ask now bad the check in lines are at 6 AM? What time do you arrive at London City and what time is your flight out of Heathrow?

Sorry I did not mention that I had two days between flights but we decided to stay close to Heathrow. I decided to play it safe and booked a car service from London City Airport to the hotel at Heathrow and still was several hundred dollars cheaper than flying direct into Heathrow from Edinburgh. London City Airport was a nice smaller, less crowded airport. First time there, will use it more often if available. Thanks for replies.

I've gotten to the airport hotel. Flying out of T3 tomorrow am. Hoping the chaos on a Tuesday early am is not too much. My niece flew out yesterday and it took her 3.5 hours to checkin and barely get to her flight on time. Good thing it was delayed.

so was it late enough for you to use the Elizabeth Line which so easily joins City Airport and Heathrow?

I misread your OP as needing to make the trip in order to check in early. You should be in a good (if meltingly hot) position now, and the journey could have been very easy...

How did it go?

The train from Edinburgh would have been even cheaper…
