We are traveling by public transport from either Bath or Chippenham on September 12 to Heathrow Terminal 3 , for 1 PM flight on 13th. Trying to figure out least amount of transfers and best places to stay without risk of delays. Have booked Raddison Conference center near terminals... Looking at other options with less transfers... Bus from Reading Station, staying in Slough etc.
Doe anyone have experience or clear knowledge?

Why don't you stay at or next to the airport?
Frank's question was exactly the same as mine. If you are going to the airport, why not go to the airport? That is the solution with the fewest transfers.
There are several hotels at terminal 4, including Premier Inn that are accessed by a covered walkway.
Hilton Garden Inn at Terminal 2/3 is very convenient as well.
Soffitel, terminal 5 is a short walk and very nice, but can be pricey.
Very easy to go between terminals for free on tube.
The Hilton Garden Inn is very convenient especially if you are departing from Terminal 3. As for transportation take the train from Bath to Paddington and the Heathrow Express to LHR.
It has been a few years, but I took a National Express bus directly from Bath to Heathrow. It worked great. Luggage goes under the bus. I just checked and this service is still in place. Choose the route with no changes and it is about 2 hours 20 minutes. Price for a random day about £20.
Whilst the Radisson is close to Heathrow you will still need to transfer from the airport when you arrive and then come back, by either bus or taxi.
I wouldn't normally recommend Reading for an overnight stay but I think it would work well in your case. There is a Malmaison Hotel immediately opposite the station and right by the buses to Heathrow. A fine hotel chain and you would have access to lots of other food options in a real place rather than an airport hotel. Your 1pm flight time gives you plenty of time to take the bus to the airport on the morning.
