Best place to rent a car if staying in Egham?

Hi there! My husband and I will be staying in Egham for a week in late March. He's there for work while I do some sightseeing. We are planning to visit Stonehenge and have already booked a B&B in Salisbury for one night (we have an early appt. for the Stone Circle Access the next day). We were planning to rent a car to drive from Egham to Salisbury. Would it be best to get a rental car from Heathrow or try to find a place closer like Staines? The Budget Rental car service in Staines seems to charge twice as much for an automatic transmission vs. a manual. I can drive a manual but with driving on the other side of the road and using my left hand instead of my right for a manual, it may be a little trickier than necessary. Is there a rental car place in Egham or do I need to head back to Heathrow to get one? Thanks for your help in advance.

Yes that's normal in the UK, automatics are always more expensive.

There are a few small operations in the vicinity but you will get much better choice and better opening hours at Heathrow.

Sorry for the delayed response. Thank you for your help. We decided to reserve a car at Heathrow instead. I appreciate your help and feedback!

By the time you have gone from Egham to Heathrow, collected your car & done all the paperwork, you might just as well have gone by train from Egham to Salisbury. Services are at roughly 30 minute intervals & require 2 changes. Journey time is around 2 hours. Pay on the day with a return ticket for a couple of days ahead & it will cost you about £36 each. A shuttle bus service connects Salisbury with Stonehenge. Use this website to see trains - click 'details'.
