Myself and two friends will be in London at the end of April, and we enjoy going to afternoon tea on all of our travels.
I am looking for any and all recommendations. We were thinking of the Ritz Carlton, but would love to hear of other places.
Thank you!!
A friend of mine had Tea at Claridge's this past January, I think. She had a delightful experience. She is a value-conscious lady and felt Claridge's delivered beyond her expectations and that it was worth every penny. She made a reservation online before she came to London. Don't know the time frame but I believe it was 60 days or so.
Another friend had tea at Fortnum & Mason and loved it.
I have had tea at the Wallace Collection on one trip. Another trip, I had tea at Harrod's. Both experiences were very nice.
Claridge's is on my bucket list for my next trip to London.
Enjoy!
This thread is just three days old: It has lots of suggestions: https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/england/afternoon-tea-in-london-9ea8ebb3-a7ef-4c19-9370-291ea895fb34
Afternoon Tea at the Savoy, Tea at Seymour's Parlour, Zetter Townhouse and Prêt-à-Portea at The Berkeley, Knightsbridge.
These locations are very elegant for afternoon tea.
Hi I’m Judy B’s friend who really enjoyed tea at Claridge’s. Lived up to its reputation in quality of food, warm and attentive service, beautiful room, and live musical accompaniment of piano and cellist. I had a 515p booking and left at 730p, never felt rushed.
I have also enjoyed afternoon tea at Brown’s hotel in Mayfair using a discount voucher from afternoontea.co.uk.
In May I’ve booked tea at The Goring Hotel near Buckingham Palace.
Enjoy wherever you choose!
Edit:. The thing about paying top price for an afternoon tea is that it had better be perfect for that price. Claridge’s certainly did not disappoint. I’ve not been to tea at the Ritz so I can’t compare. On the other hand you can spend half that price elsewhere and even if it’s not perfect it’s not the end of the world to me.

Otherwise, I enjoy a regular tea room with the locals!

We love The Wolseley! Right next to the Ritz...

I don't understand the obsession, am I missing something?
Perhaps I should start a thread on the best place for a pie and a pint.
@JC My obsession is that tea in a nice calm place, such as Fortnum and Mason, is a very restful interlude in a busy travel day.
I have had Tea at The Savoy and found it to be fantastic. I also had Tea at the Ritz and I felt it was a bit cramped and rushed - and I found the Savoy had a much better spread.
Thank you all so much for your input! Much appreciated!
