best of england tour in london

For those of you who have been on this tour recently the first full day in London itinerary provides for Tower of London and then a Thames River cruise and then free time.

In order to plan the afternoon please tell me approximately what time the river cruise ended so I could schedule tour times at other places?

The itinerary suggests the cruise disembarks at Westminister but where does it begin? I was thinking of getting off closer to the National Gallery so I would be closer to Courtauld Gallery/British museum but don't want to miss a lot of the river cruise.

Thanks so much

Hi Sharon, I don’t believe the river cruise makes stops along the way - at least I don’t remember having that choice when I took this tour years ago. It’s best to consult with the RS office for a specific time when you are expected to end the river cruise.

It should begin right near the Tower of London, there's a dock that's across a street from it. It's showing as a 35 minute ride, but there's a long queue to get on sometimes (great view of Tower Bridge while you wait, tho). No stops that I know of, and Westminster's not that far from National Gallery. Realistically, my next plan will be to stay right there and tour Parliament. No sense dashing off anywhere else when that's on my future list too :)
Victoria Tower garden's an option too... Must be right there. Mapping things is critical, since the months of living there taught me it's way too huge to do everything :)
Happy touring !

There were no stops from one we boarded til we got off. After the cruise we walked to Buckingham Palace. Each tour can be slightly different, check with the RS tour office if you want approximate times but then, again, things can change for any number of reasons and have during our numerous tours.

We did this tour a few years ago and as the others have mentioned, it started at the Tower Pier at the Tower of London and ended at the dock below the Westminster tube station. At that time, the boat made no stops along the way and we finished around midday.

We are taking this tour in August/September. The itinerary says after the river cruise, we are free to see Churchill War Rooms, British Museum, or take a walk in the park. Are tickets to the Churchill War Rooms included with the RS tour? We’re guessing not, that we should book ahead?

Thanks!

I will be on the Best of England tour Aug 31- Sept 13 and already bought a ticket to see the Churchill War Rooms for trip day 13 (the first full day in London) at 1:30, following the cruise. Fingers crossed! I might call the RS office to check on this- just to be on the safe side. - Dawn

We took the Best of London and the Best of England back to back. We received no charge tickets from our guide for the Churchill War Rooms on the Best of London but not on the Best of England Tour.

Hi Sharon, I emailed the RS office. They said the tour's free time (following the cruise on Best of England Day 13) begins at 12:30-1 pm. Enjoy! - Dawn
