Best no stairs tube station from Heathrow to South Kensington hotel?

I am coming from Heathrow and staying on Queen's Gate in South Kensington. I need a tube station where I can get up to ground level and catch a taxi without climbing stairs. I have read that the closest stations South Kensington and Gloucester both have flights of steps to climb. Is Earl's Court truly steps free, or maybe only a few managable steps for an old lady with her luggage? Or is another station better?

Generally, there are no taxis waiting outside of the South Kensington or Gloucester Road or Earls Court tube station. If you want a taxi to your hotel, you would probably be better off taking the Elizabeth line to Paddington and following the sign to the taxi queue where there will be many taxis waiting.

It is true that you can avoid steps at the Earls Court tube station. There is a lift from the Piccadilly line to the ticket hall level and then you can use a ramp to get to street level at the Earls Court Road exit.

When is your trip?

The Earls Court ramp that offered step free access was closed due to water damage and I'm not sure if it has reopened. (I was there two weeks ago and it was still closed.)

But there are no taxis waiting outside that station as well.

By the way, the underground station is Gloucester Road not to be confused with the actual Gloucester train station. It's best to use full names of the stations.

We took the Heathrow Express to Paddington Station which does not have stairs. Then we walked to the taxi rank and got a taxi to our hotel in South Kensington. It went very well with luggage. If you buy Heathrow Express tickets online early, it is not very expensive and it allows you to go any time on the day you arrive, so if your plane is late it is not an issue.

I was thinking Heathrow Express then taxi combo as well. How far out is your trip? The price of the Heathrow Express varies from around £5 to around £25 depending on how far in advance you can purchase.

If you can't get the cheap tickets on the Heathrow Express, take the Elizabeth line instead. It's half the price and only a few minutes longer. It also goes to Paddington.

Taxis are always found outside major train stations but rarely outside tube stations.

The other option which would have been the only one for a part public transport ride before going directly to Paddington was possible is the Piccadilly to Hammersmith and taxi from there. Hammersmith has a much bigger & more active taxi rank than Earls Court or Gloucester Road although there is no guarantee. I only mention this just in case there is a disruption into Paddington.

I was going to mention Hammersmith because above the station is a decent size bus depot but I don't know of any dedicated taxi rank.

There is no taxi rank at either Earls Court or Gloucester Road. The only way to get a taxi is to hail one or call for one.

Of course, there is alway Uber.

Depending on where your hotel is located on Queens Gate, it may be a simple walk from either Gloucester Road or South Kensington stations. The walk is flat on decent, smowhat smooth pavement. No cobblestones.

Checking with the TfL list of taxi ranks there are 2-car ranks serving both Earls Court & Gloucester Road, but the former is nighttime only and the latter round the corner in Courtfield Road, so pretty minor things. Not to be relied on at all

The one at Hammersmith though has 4 spaces. There has been at least one parked outside when I have walked by as I remember but as I said no guarantee.
