What is the best market ( Covent Garden , Leadenhall etc. ) to visit while in London ? There in early May. Thank you !

Really depends what you are interested in. For me its Portobello Road, which is mostly antiques and old curiosities, a fascinating place! For clothes, probably Brick Lane or Petticoat Lane (near each other). For food, definitely Borough Market! For a variety, the various Camden Markets near Camden Lock. I'm sure there are other suggestions - these are just my favourites.

Covent Garden and Leadenhall aren’t proper markets. They were once but the buildings are now repurposed into permanent shops and restaurants.

There are still many regular markets in London. Portobello Road, Camden, Colombia Road are some of the well known ones.

Columbia Road flower market is on a Sunday and it's at its best before or around midday. Great for photos. It's usually starting to wind down by 2pm.

It's a nice walk on a Sunday to start at Columbia Road, walk down to Spitalfields Market and then take in Brick Lane.

You want to go to Portobello Road on a Saturday and Columbia Road/Brick Lane/Spitalfields on a Sunday. Spitalfields is OK on other days too.

I never miss a chance to visit Portobello Rd market on a Saturday--early is best as it gets very congested from 11 am on. I like Covent Garden if I'm there on a Monday as they feature antiques dealers that day and I actually have found more interesting things there than at Portobello. If you're up for a trip to Greenwich (which is a wonderful day out from London--I went via DLR and returned on the Thames Clipper, explored the market and then walked up to the Royal Observatory, then down to visit the National Maritime Museum and there's also the Cutty Sark to tour) you might enjoy their market hall that dates to 1737--there are permanent shops, excellent food options and each day features different market stalls, between antiques and arts & crafts--the arts and crafts offerings were quite good, I was there on a Saturday.

Personally I like Maltby for food, Portobello because it’s Portobello and Brick Lane because I like the nearly adjacent Spitalfields.
