Best day to Visit Windsor Castle

Hello, my family and I will be in London from Sept. 30 to October 5, which is Friday through Wednesday. I was wondering when the best day would be to visit Windsor Castle. We've been before but it was on a tour, so we where at the Castle for maybe 2 1/2 hours. We didn't get to see everything plus we would have liked to see the town itself. I was thinking of visiting the Castle either Monday or Tuesday but wasn't sure about the crowds on those days.

Also, what are some good open air markets or flea markets to visit while in London?

Thank you.

Thank you MrsEB, I was thinking the same thing. I believe the last time we went with the tour it was a Saturday, very crowded. Thanks again.

It's easy to get to Windsor. Take the train from Paddington Station, you will have to change trains in Slough from platform 2 to platform 1, it a 35 minute ride from Paddington to Windsor. When you get to Windsor exit the train, turn to your left, walk up to the road, castle is across the street. After you tour the castle you will exit through Henry VIII gate, there is a great pub across the street, The Horse and Groom. There are two great things you can do, as you exit the castle turn to your right and walk down to the road that runs in front of the castle, when you get to the road turn to your left and follow the road down to Windsor Great Park, go through the gate and walk up to your left and you will see another set of gates, there you will have a fantastic view of the royal residences of the castle, the long drive you see in the park is called The Long Walk, it's the private drive for the royal family to use to come and leave the castle. The second thing you can do is, when you leave the park and walk up to the castle, cross the road so you will be in front on the Harte &Garter Hotel, (across from the castle) walk down that side
of the road till you get to the second road on your right (there is a bend in the road) turn right onto the second road on your right, walk a block, then walk over the bridge and you will be in Eton which is where Eton College (which is actually a Jr., and high school) it's where the aristocrats and royal family send their sons to. You might see some of the boys in their black tails coats which is their uniforms. Enjoy Windsor!!!

I also wanted to know if going either early when the Castle opens is better or going after 10, once the tour groups have entered is better? Thank you.
