Best budget but nice hotels near the Tower Bridge/Tower of London...?

Hello All!!
Just curious - first timer to the UK here and we're .taking one of the Best of England tours in Oct, but are extending our stay two nights past the tour, and looking to stay around the Tower of London area. Can anyone please recommend a nice budget hotel (there will be 4 of us, husband and I and our young adult sons). Since I'm not familiar with any of the areas, I'm just having a little anxiety about 'safe areas' and all that. I'd really really appreciate your help!!! Thanks, everyone!!

Pam

I don't think you can go wrong with Premier Inn - there are three quite close to the Tower. Area is as safe as any.

Agree with Lin C. Any of the Premier Inns should be fine. Also why the fear? London doesn’t have a high crime rate.

As with anywhere you’re not familiar with, I’m just nervous about not knowing the area, that’s all.

I understand. Guess as a person who has traveled solo since the 70’s that not knowing an area is part of the adventure.

Have a wonderful time in a great city. London is always changing yet always the same.

Cheers

Pam, central London is extremely safe. You will find people walking about at night. When I traveled solo in April I had no worries leaving the theater after 10pm and walking to the underground station to get a 12 minute tube ride back to my hotel. It is not like taking the CTA at night in Chicago.

Have you checked with your London hotel about staying on after the tour? They may offer a special rate.

Is there a reason you want to stay by the Tower of London & Tower Bridge? It is fairly easy to get around London with the underground and buses.

As mentioned for the price, you can't go wrong with Premier Inns. We stayed at the St. Pancras location in a premium room 2 years ago. While lacking in charm. It was clean, quiet and comfortable. I know the County Hall location is quite popular with many posters here.

Pamzam101, Premier Inns are good hotels for those on a budget, yet are consistently clean with very comfortable beds. Premier Inn County Hall is very close to Westminster. You just turn out of the hotel, walk a block, then cross the Westminster Bridge and you're there. Near there are the Churchill War Rooms, Buckingham Palace, and Big Ben. The London Eye is actually just a few steps away on the Thames. So for most of your sights, that would be convenient. I stayed there last year for 5 nights and found it to be a very good hotel that was reasonably priced.

There is another PI just up the street (Premier Inn Waterloo) so you might want to check prices for both. Other Premier Inns in the vicinity include the Premier Inn Victoria (near Victoria Station) and Premier Inn Leicester, near Trafalgar Square. You will also see a number of Premier Inn Hubs, which are cheaper but much smaller (some rooms do not have windows).

If you're looking for something near Tower Bridge, I would suggest the Premier Inn Blackfriars, which has gotten good reviews here. It's relatively close to the Tower of London, etc., but also close to Covent Garden and very near St. Paul's Cathedral.

All PIs provide breakfast at an additional (reasonable) cost. And keep in mind that PIs offer a variety of pricing options: Non-refundable (the cheapest), a hybrid price that is payable in advance but you can cancel up to 25 days ahead, and completely refundable. Generally the earlier you book, the cheaper the price.

Are you .looking for two rooms, or a family room for four? Accor hotels has several budget sites in London. You might also look at aparthotels in London..

There is a Youth Hostel (accepts adults too) quite near St Pauls, but just a short bus ride to the Tower.
