Hi Everyone,
Can anyone recommend a beach near York that you would recommend for beach combing? We'll have a car.
Thank you, Kim

There is the beach guide for north east england online that has a list of top ten beaches in Yorkshire with descriptions and maps. They seemed to be what you're looking for with sandy beaches for walking or scenic shoreside villages. Seaglass has been found on Whitby Beach.

Runswick Bay tops the list of the best ten beaches for beachcombing and is about 50 miles north east of York.

Whitby also publicises itself for beach combing and is a bit closer to York.

Hi Kim -

Have to agree with wasleys that Runswick bay is best, for everything beach wise and there are just enough facilities, including a beach cafe and pub. The stretch of beach from Whitby towards Sandsend is good too, and benefits from having Whitby nearby. Hardest to get to (ropes for assistance down the steep descent to the beach) is Port Mulgrave which has driftwood/salvage fisherman’s huts on the beach although the beach is not that large. Zero facilities as I recall. Filey, the seaside town of my youth has the Brigg (careful of the tides) and a decent stretch of beach plus the Coble Landing.

Happy beachcombing!

P.S. If you venture further north, the beaches in Northumberland are sensational. DM me if you need more info on that - it’s not close to York, well, not in comparison with the Yorkshire locations.

Whitby is a great place to visit, not for any beach. Sorry, I can't see going to England go to the beach.
