We'll be exploring the Cotswolds at the end of March 2026, and it seems that a larger town is better for our base. One with many pubs and restaurants for our evenings? I'm planning for three days of explorations.
We used Chipping Campden as our base for six nights. We stayed at the Volunteer Inn and it was nice. They have spacious room, great breakfasts, the best pub in town and a great Indian restaurant.
Stow-on-the-World is bigger than Chipping Campden offering a larger selection of dining and pub options.
We did the Cotswolds in 2017, so can't verify current situation.
When I researched where to stay in the Cotswolds, I consider other places like Stow and Moreton-in-Marsh.
We found the cities were larger, but the lodgings that we considered were more expensive in those to than the Volunteer Inn in Chipping Campden.
Also, you can walk to anyplace in Chipping Campden without having to get in your car.
When doing the Cotswolds, we visited Stow and Moreton and didn't find them as charming as Chipping Campden.
We stayed in Chipping Campden for six nights and ate in four different restaurants there and all were excellent.
