Best area for public transport in London

We have our hotel/apartment in London narrowed down to three. Due to health issues we need a place in a safe neighborhood within easy walking distance to public transportation We are picking from one of the following:

Still Life - Vauxhall, St Johns Wharf, London, SW8 2LP UK Barbican
Serviced Apartments, Glasshouse Yard, Islington, London EC1A 4JL UK
Blueprint Living Apartments -Turnmill Street, London EC1M 5RR UK

We are leaning toward Still Life because it is very close to a tube and an underground station, but that also means a lot of NOISE :) We are having a tough time deciding...
Thanks so much for your help!

Hi Margie,

These all got good ratings on Booking.com, as I'm sure you have seen.
Personally I would pick the Barbican Serviced Apartments because it's a little closer than Vauxhall to the things I'm interested in. That only matters for walking, though. For taking the bus they all seem more or less equally well-located.

Barbican appears to be close to Blueprint but in a quieter street (based on the map).

I didn't compare prices. That might be what turns the tide for you.

The pictures and descriptions on all three are pretty inviting. I would be happy at any of these places.

Hope your trip planning is going well,

Jill

I don't think you have a problem with any of those being in an unsafe neighborhood.

If your health concerns are such that a small difference in distance to the nearest tube station could be a deciding factor (and they're all very close), be aware that taking the tube can involve a lot of walking within the system itself - to change between lines and to get between the station entrance and the train platform. Some stations are a lot worse than others in this regard. Transport for London publishes detailed guides on how to avoid stairs when taking the tube (see here) but I'm not aware of a guide on how to avoid too much walking. Maybe one of the UK residents will know.

Just because a tube station is nearby doesn't mean it's good. The Vauxhaul station has only one line so keep that in mind.

I know the Vauxhaul area as I stayed near the station last year. You won't find a lot of tourists as it's mostly locals. Very busy corner near the tube station. If your apartment faces the street, it could be very noisy.

BTW, tube and underground are the same thing.

www./googlemaps.com
You can type in your hotel address, then use the menu on the left to use the Directions key to wherever you want to go. Icons at the top of the results page indicate walking, driving, public transit (it looks like a train engine) etc. Tube and surface transport stations will show up on the map. The Tube is fairly quiet when actually underground but the trains do raise some noise in open cuts. Google's satellite view may help judge what form of tracks are close to your hotels.

Margie, have you booked your apartment yet? Which one did you choose?

If not, and you are still looking, I do have some suggestions for you. I want to wait and see if you need or want these suggestions before launching into them.

Good. I think you will be satisfied. The number 4 bus is the one that will take you north or south along Goswell Rd. You can take it south to St. Paul's Cathedral. Be sure to visit The Museum Of London; it's in your neighborhood and is excellent.
Have a great trip!
