Well it was not inexpensive but the absolute best tea I’ve ever had was the time my mother treated me to see at the Ritz . It would be a wonderful way to celebrate your 60th birthday

We had an elegant tea at Fortnum and Mason on Christmas Eve.

Clarity. You desire an afternoon tea that includes sandwiches, scones and cakes? That is afternoon tea and can be quite pricey.

Having a pleasant cream tea experience when you can add a scone with jam is cheaper, informal and as just as pleasant.

So as noted above Fortum and Mason does a very nice afternoon tea. Another pleasant locale is Brown’s hotel. Formal and pricey.

To enjoy a scone and cream tea with out the hoopla but still an enjoyable atmosphere opt try The Ivy Chelsea Garden. Book in advance.

Lastly if an adventurous trio who doesn’t mind a bit of tube travel, you could try Orange Pekoe in Barnes.
Can get crowded so, if interested, reserve and go early. My favorite spot for tea.

I"m a fan of Fortnum and Mason-they had a piano player a few years ago when we were there and business casual dress was acceptable.

Loved Fortnum & Mason. Exquisite. It’s all you can eat so go hungry. I believe it was £95 pp and worth every penny.

I can’t recommend any specific place, but be aware that the Ritz has a dress code. Friends wanted to take us there for an anniversary dinner and I looked at the website to see what the dress code was. It was a dealbreaker. The only option for a little more relaxed dress was breakfast. Admittedly it’s a bit easier for women to deal with the restrictions than for men.

I have been to The Wolseley twice for Afternoon Tea, in 2017, then last Monday. It was beautiful. My husband was so impressed we went back for breakfast the next morning-our last day in London. I highly Recommend The Wolseley

I've been a few times on business meetings to the Royal Horseguard Hotel. I also usually take friends and family when they come to visit. While there is usually a Groupon for it, I've been there when there was a quarter (pre-Pandemic) and it used to be one of the headquarters of military secret service (MI5/MI6) so if you are looking for that Cold War espionage feeling, it's perfect!

Sketch is also meant to be very good. Can confirm. Went a few months ago. Was incredibly good. And (like all good places!) You can have as many sandwiches/scones/cakes as you want, and try all the different teas.

You get a funky caviar with a cheesy boiled egg (I can’t explain better than that) to start with.

Hi Sally,
For three ladies and a 60th celebration...
One might enjoy afternoon tea at the Wilhelmina Lounge of Clerkenwell's Zetter Townhouse (that lounge is actually in their back penthouse). Location is right across from St. Johns Gate. The tea is available weekends only noon-4. Other times they specialize in serving their own short list of unique cocktails there. The sandwiches, scones and desserts are A+ fantastic. The variety of teas is also top-quality, for example the rooibus. But its the setting of that quirky lounge that really gives great added value.
We were there last week when there was a wedding, LOUD bagpipes and all. A bonus atmosphere if ever!
The waiter 'Joshua', from Bigos, was just as excellent as the food.
Satisfaction guaranteed.
I am done. The end.

There are plenty to choose from. Whether you want a themed afternoon tea, one that comes with a view, or a takeaway one considering the great weather we have in London at the moment. Most hotels now do them for something a little lux with a view you can have afternoon tea in the Shard. The Orangery at Kensington Palace has afternoon tea. Milestone Hotel, I believe Selfridges or Paul does an afternoon tea delivery which you can have as a picnic in the park. You can also combine afternoon tea with a spa day via virgin Experiences or the red-letter days. You can also have additional inspiration on affordable afternoon teas in London here but also check out sites like GroupOn. Another great tea we had was at Lancaster hotel and

I'll be in London in 2 weeks, and we have reservations at The Pavilion at Kensington Palace for afternoon tea. The cost is high (£39/person), but we're excited for a special treat. My youngest daughter is very excited to have tea "in" a palace, and I'll admit -- my 72 year old mother and I are excited as well!

We also may go to The English Rose Cafe and Tea Shop (near Buckingham Palace) for either lunch or a snack. They also have an afternoon tea which highly reviewed and half the cost of the one at Kensington Palace (£38/2 people).
