Bayswater vs. Fulham/Putney and New Years Eve in London

Help! We'll be in London for several days around New Year's, and I need to make a quick choice (by 10/9) between an apartment in Bayswater (Vancouver Studios) and a home near the Putney bridge. Does anyone have thoughts about which of these areas would be better to stay in? We're hoping to stay in a pleasant neighborhood where we can walk to shops, restaurants and the tube.

Also - any great ideas for New Year's Eve in London? We are a couple, with two twentyish girls (they may actually want to do something apart from us . . . )

Thank you!

Bayswater, VS... Been mentioned here before as being nice. Putney is nice but a good distance away from the tourist hotspots. NYE... £10 tickets for the fireworks by Big Ben / London Eye... If you can get them... Or view from Primrose Hill if the weather is nice.

Personally I'd take Fulham close to the river every time over Bayswater. but that could depend on the properties themselves and their exact locations.

From Bayswater, you could walk to the Green Park / St. James's Park area on NYE... close to the fireworks if you can't get it, and will no doubt be a nice party atmosphere, assuming it's not horrible weather. Then you will be nice and close to walk to the New Years Day parade on Piccadilly on Jan 1st. It's a small and often chilly affair... but it's something to do. A lot of American marching bands seem to attend for some reason.

Any links or details available for the properties?

"A home near the Putney bridge" appeals to me, but I would want to see the listing. If it's AirBnB or VRBO, can you furnish a link?

Rebecca,

I'm sorry - I just saw your comment! I had heard about the home from what seems to be a great resource: At Home in London: [email protected]

I had received the suggestion from Carolyn at "At Home in London" - they work with you to find homes in locations that suit your interests/group size, etc. You might give them a try! It's an alternative to VRBO and Airbnb, and the homes she mentioned to me were very reasonable.

We stayed in Bayswater and found it to be a very convenient location. Mass transit makes it pretty easy. We did have lots of fun wheeling our luggage thru various levels of the Underground. Bayswater has shopping arcades and restaurants and groceries on most corners.
For New Years I would go to a Play...you may be able to get 1/2 price tickets.
