Bayeux Tapestry Tickets

FYI about Bayeux Tapestry tickets at the British Museum.

Ticket sales opened today for museum members for Bayeux Tapestry tickets for Sept 10-Dec 31 for this year.
The queue took 5 and a half hours (!!!), and I had 12,000 people ahead of me, but I was able to get tickets for our preferred time and date in September.
Ticket sales for non-members open up July 1.

If it will be anything like today's sale, be prepared for a long online queue!
The queue did have an option to be emailed when it is your turn, and that worked out well.

Wow! Congratulations on getting tickets!
I want to visit in April. Thinking about getting a membership for that but not sure.

I'm thinking about April as well. We're trying to find it with a visit to the Queen's Life in Style exhibit that runs until mid-April. Thinking about the membership option as well.

It's so crazy that it's such high demand, though well deserved. When we were in Bayeux in spring 2024, we walked up to the museum, bought tickets and were about 2 of 6 people enjoying the spectacular tapestry. It does not disappoint! Marvel and enjoy!

Definitely crazy and felt like the queue for buying Taylor Swift tickets for my daughter!

Ironically we will also travel to Bayeux on this trip, but are just glad we will be able to see the tapestry somewhere this fall!

For anyone unlucky enough not to get a ticket, Reading Museum has a full scale replica of the tapestry which was embroidered in 1885 by a group of Victorian needlewomen. They copied the original by following designs traced onto linen from photographs. Woollen yarns were dyed to match the originals as closely as possible, and the project was completed in little over a year.

Entry to the museum is free (although they do appreciate a donation). It will also probably be a lot quieter!

(The link has a breakdown of the different scenes explaining what is happening. I saw the tapestry in Normandy many many years ago aged about 13 and hadn't a clue what to look for or what the different bits represented. )

Wow, there were only 9166 people ahead of me when I logged in, but after 4/1/2 hours I succeeded. I became a museum member just for this ticket sale as we wanted to see the tapestry on our way to a Christmas Markets tour with Adventures with Sarah so our dates were limited.

Their website is a disaster. Long queue times and you end up at “Page Not Found”. They better keep an eye on that tapestry because they’ve screwed up everything else.

I'm really hoping that they are beginning to sort out all the problems with their website. I was logged out when I got to the front of the queue after a couple of hours wait, then sent to the back of a wrong queue (for other tickets, not for the Bayeux tapestry), and by the time I got to the actual queue and my turn came up (all in all, four queues and 8 hours), my preferred day was gone. Now I do have tickets but it is for a day when we are supposed to fly out....so now I need to change our flights if possible.

All this to say that the process is extremely chaotic right now, but the last queue did move faster than the precious ones. No queue now, during British night-time. Most of the September dates appeared to be sold out (I think a few slots left at the end of the month) but November and December still have good availability.

Does anyone know if more tickets will get released for sold out dates?
