Bayeux Tapestry Reproduction at Tewkesbury Abbey

For anyone unable to get tickets for the Bayeux Tapestry at the British Museum, there is another full size reproduction (apart from Reading) going on display at Tewkesbury Abbey from 22 October 2026 to 11 July 2027- https://www.tewkesburyabbey.org.uk/bayeux/

Although there is no longer a railway to Tewkesbury it is fairly easy to get there- with 4 buses an hour from Cheltenham, or (if staying in the Cotswolds) a bus every 30 minutes from Evesham (a station on the Cotswold Line beyond Moreton in Marsh)

There is a low voluntary contribution for entry to the Abbey (suggested £5), and no further charge for either the replica Tapestry or for the related Norman Trail exhibition on at the same time.

When I was younger our family frequently visited Tewkesbury Abbey - a magnificent building.

Tewkesbury is a nice town on the edge of the Cotswolds that isn’t on most tourists’ radar. It has its own charm, but isn’t what most people think of when thinking of the Cotswolds. We spent a night there in early September and visited the abbey. While walking around the abbey exterior the previous evening we chatted with an abbey history expert who authored a book on its history that is sold in the abbey gift shop. He chatted with us for about 30 minutes, all about the abbey’s history. While one could spend more time at the abbey, we spent about an hour there. We had a rental car.
