Bath vs 5th day in London

Hello y’all!

I’m interested in getting some opinions on whether or not to spend a 5th day in London or to take a day trip to Bath.
Here’s our itinerary as it is:
Day 1: morning arrival, leisurely afternoon
Day 2: Westminster Abbey and St Paul’s
Day 3: Day trip to Bath OR stay in London
Day 4: Day trip to Oxford
Day 5: Parliament tour and Buckingham Palace tour/walk around Whitehall and Trafalgar Square
Day 6: Churchill War Rooms, Sunday service at Westminster Abbey, afternoon walking tour of the City
Day 7: Windsor
Thanks for the advice!

You’ve already got 2 days trips so I’d stay in London. There’s so much to see.

I would leave out either Bath or Oxford in favour of Greenwich for the day. If you do decide to go to Bath don’t do it on a day next to Oxford. Better to split your days up.

I agree with Helen. Give yourself time to explore some of London’s beautiful parks, Covent Garden, etc. we had four day trips planned on our original 9 day itinerary- we went up to York one day, down to hike the Seven Sisters, and Windsor, but we ended up scrapping one to at the end of our trip (Richmond) in order to stay in London to see more of it. We were also feeling the effects of all of our walking/ sightseeing, so staying in and leisurely going back to places we wanted to revisit and/or see anew was nice that last day.

Play it by ear and decide when you’re there. There’s no need to decide now.

Agree. Bath, however, is a lovely city and is fairly close. With an early start and late return, you should be able to see the major things on a day trip. If you do go, consider tea at The Pump Room.

My wife and I are planning the same sort of trip / stay later this month. We were going to go to Bath for two nights, to give us a full day in Bath after three nights in London. With the suggestions I received from this forum we changed it to a day trip.
Changing our trip gave us the option of moving to a new hotel in London. We are staying in South London by the Waterloo station the first three days. Now we have a room by Paddington station for two nights
This way we are close to the station that goes to Bath if we decide to go there for a day trip.
We plan on moving rooms Sunday morning, drop our bags off at the new motel and explore that part of town.
Now we can go see Hyde Park Speakers Corner on Sunday, Sunday Roast , and a visit to the Museum of Natural History on what would have been a travel day.
This leaves Monday open to go to Bath early in the morning and return to London in the afternoon or early evening.
This also made the next part of our trip to Liverpool easier and quicker leaving Euston Station instead of Bath that we originally had planned.
And if we are tired or don't want to go to Bath we have a lot more options staying in the London area.

I really can't se the point of moving hotels for a 5 night stay. Whilst nowhere is convenient for every tourist site in London nowhere is that far away either. You will just lose a couple of hours moving all your stuff from one hotel to the other which you could have spent seeing something else. From Waterloo you can get to most central places including both Paddington and Euston pretty quickly.

I thought the same thing why move rooms?
This is the first time for my wife and I have visted London. I had no idea where to go or stay. So we picked a room above a pub because I thought that would be a cool experience. But five nights above a pub might be a bit much
With the change in our itinerary it gave us the opportunity to stay in a different part of London, so why not move?
We will be moving rooms on Easter Sunday. I found that there is a bus line that goes from our South London room to the Mayfair area. Traffic should be lighter and we get a bus tour for a couple of pounds.
Now we have two days to walk and explore that part of the city.

Bath is worthy, but I know I would have been disappointed as just a day trip. We spent 2 nights there which was 1.5 days of site seeing and that was the bare minimum to see all we wanted to see.

Hello josephjpet,
I read your other thread you had posted in January, which basically outlines your time in London and day trips, just as this present thread does.
https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/england/itinerary-in-england-question
You originally said Oxford was important to you.

Oxford and Bath can both be reached by coach (bus) from Heathrow, very easily.
I will throw out the suggestion that you could go to Oxford directly from Heathrow, spend the night, then travel into London. This would give you an afternoon and an evening in Oxford to look around. In your other thread, you mentioned the possibility of seeing Blenheim. You could take an Oxford city bus north (not very far) to see Blenheim.
You would also have the morning that you check out of your hotel to walk around Oxford.

When you arrive in London that day, you would drop your bags at your hotel (too early for check-in) and go see Westminster Abbey and St Paul’s, as planned.

You may instead choose to take the coach (bus) from Heathrow to Bath and spend one night (or two) there.
There's lots to see. Then take the train into London.

Yet another choice is to take a taxi the very short distance from Heathrow to Windsor and spend one night there.
You could tour the castle, walk around the town of Windsor, then head into London on the train the next day.
