Bath to Leamington Spa by rail

Hi folks, we want to travel from Bath (in September) to Leamington Spa. Looking at the national rail website it looks as though we have to go to Reading and change there to go north to Leamington Spa. Does anyone have any better ideas for getting from Bath to L. Spa? Our true objective is to visit Stratford upon Avon but not to stay there. I’m open to any other suggestions for a place to stay for a couple of nights or for a better route from B. to L.S.. Thanks for any and all info, MSG

A difficult journey as no direct rail line or bus service. (If you want easy trips from Bath - try Salisbury (for Stonehenge via shuttle bus) and/or Cardiff - which has a castle in the centre and other places to visit nearby such as St.Fagans Castle & Museum and Caerphilly Castle.

Anyway, back to getting from Bath to Stratford-upon-Avon. Go on https://www.traintickets.com/?/ and put in for Bath to Stratford-upon-Avon and up will come options with various routes and prices. (This site will tell you what tickets to buy that reduce the price by having ‘splits’ rather than a through ticket). Check prices for today and also for dates further out.

Now, do the same thing again but this time for Bath to MIM (Moreton -in-Marsh). You could consider staying in MIM and the using local buses to reach other Cotswold towns such as Bourton-on-the-Water, Broadway & Chipping Campden. A bus service runs from MIM to Stratford-upon-Avon =https://www.pulhamscoaches.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Pulhams-51-Timetable-Sept-2020.pdf

Also check https://www.traveline.info for finding out how to get from a to b.

It is cheaper to buy a ticket not via Reading and changing at Didcot Parkway and Oxford (or sometimes Banbury) instead as this does one side of a triangle rather than two. The journey time is fairly similar on average.

I'm wondering......why not?
