Hi All,
I perused the posts, but I could not find anything recent with recommendations for restaurants in Bath-- we will be spending a couple nights there at the end of the month. Specifically, I am interested in dinner places, but I'm happy to hear about anywhere that you thought was worth a meal. We don't have any food allergies or things we avoid, however, we're not big drinkers, so if what made the meal for you was the beer/wine, that might not be as important for us. Feel free to link to prior posts if I missed them. Thanks!
Full disclosure: we have not been, but our best friends were in Bath a couple of months ago and raved about the Bathwick Boatman. https://bathwickboatman.com/
I recall particularly high praise for an eggplant dish with capers and other Mediterranean flavors, and the grilled sole.
Again, not somewhere I have been, but my tastes largely line up with theirs, and their recommendations have never steered us wrong.
If you like seafood, google The Scallop Shell and see if it interest you. We thoroughly enjoyed it and will eat there again.
We went to Bath in March 2023, and had a lovely Sunday roast dinner at Chequers pub and an absolutely fantastic multi-course dinner at The Olive Tree. The Olive Tree is Michelin starred and $$$, so if that is not your thing, you can skip it. But we thought it was fantastic. If you are not big drinkers, you can just do drinks a la carte and skip the drink pairing (we did it, but we like that kind of thing). Our walking tour guide recommended Marlborough Tavern, so we popped over there one night for dinner as it was near our hotel and we had a nice, tasty dinner.
Thank you everyone— I’m always so amazed by how helpful and friendly this community is! Now we just have to pick!
The Scallop Shell was fantastic, the best fish and chips we have ever had and we have been to the UK several times.
The Cafe Brasserie in Bath is also good.
If you are keen on cream teas, one of the best I've had in England was at the Pulteney Bridge coffee shop.
We have just returned from our trip which included Bath and we loved The Salamander and The Raven was good but we found better meat pies in London. We don't drink either and just ordered tap water. We enjoyed Gelato at The Real Gelato co, next door to the real italian pizza company (it was good just not italy good). We had awful service at Bills and mediocre food, they gave us free dessert which we in turn had to wait 45 minutes for and they took 2.5% off the service fee, which at 15 % was highest we saw.
