Bath - best boat tour?

Hi!

I love being out on the water, and I'd love to do a boat tour while I'm in Bath in April...

Any recommendations? It looks like some of the best canal tours are for groups - and I'm solo.

Thank you so much!

I don't believe there are any canal trips running from Bath. Those which did ran from Widcombe Top Lock (Sydney Wharf)- the top of 5 locks which drop the Canal to River level through the centre of Bath.

Having got my 'Nicholson's' canal guide out the nearest boat trips seem to be from nearby Bradford on Avon with the K and A (Kennett and Avon) Canal Trust on their boat the Barbara McLellan. Those trips are normally on a Wednesday and a Saturday-

The John Rennie Restaurant Boat (which ran from Widcombe Top Lock) is not running this season,

Thus the best option may well be the River trips. Canal meets river in the centre of Bath to form a through navigation from London to Bristol. Those river trips used to extend further towards Bristol (I can remember infrequent Bristol to Bath or vv trips years ago) but it seems no more.

The K and A trust has other public trip boats at Reading (where the canal meets the River Thames), Newbury, Hungerford and Devizes.

From Reading and thence Oxford the connected inland waterways system (if you have weeks and weeks, plus a boat, at your disposal) goes all the way to Skipton and thence Liverpool (and through the Ribble link to the Lake District).

Stuart, thanks!

I’ll just stick to the river cruise - I can go on a canal at other times…and just being on the water will make me happy…
