Bath accommodations

We have plans to travel to England mid May spending our first night in Bath. As we will be there for only 24 hours I thought it might be better to stay in the town center?? Does anyone have experience with Harrington 's Hotel or would like to make other recommendations? What would be your choice of favorite things to see just coming off 16 hrs of travel?

If you are prone to jet lag after such a long journey, then by all means you need to be outside and walking around. And Bath is a great city for doing that. What to do? The Abby, the Circus, the market in the center of town, the Pump House, and of course the Royal Crescent. We stayed Brooks Guest House on Upper Bristol Rd. last year and were quite pleased. It is not "downtown" but is close enough as Bath is a fairly small walkable city.

We stayed at the Abbey Hotel and it was a great place to walk around; right by the Abbey and the Baths, close to the canal. It was our first night after flying from California and walking around the area followed by dinner was perfect.

What would be my choice of things to see coming off 16 hrs of travel? If I had not been able to sleep on the plane on the way over, I would want a hot shower and a short nap. Do not underestimate the power of jet lag. You cannot always just shake it off, as some people might lead you to believe.

I would attempt to walk around in the sunlight and see if that works for jet lag.
I would see the Roman Baths first.
I would spend two nights in Bath instead of one.
There's a lot to see, and you will want to take one of the free walking tours.
Check in at the Tourist Information centre for information on this.

I'm with Rebecca. I try to arrive in my cities in the afternoon. Once I get there, I unpack and sometimes take a shower. Then we go out and wander around. I do not plan activities/sites for that first day - and I'm usually only coming off a 10 hour flight - not 16.

Bath is a great city and deserves more time than you've allotted. If you fly in and spend your first night there and then leave the next day, you won't see much. I would stay another night or two. It's really much nicer to travel around and spend a bit more time in each city - even if you have to see fewer cities.
