Basic London Pass Question.

My wife and I are going to London next month. The London Pass looks like a good idea. But do we have to buy one for each of us? Can we use one card for both of us?

One per person.

Before you buy it be sure that it truly meets your needs. The consensus here is that it is vastly overpriced.

Be sure that you need all the transportation that is included. You will be almost all the time in Zones 1 and 2 of the transport system. The pass includes all the way out to Zone 6 every day and charges you for that.

Virtually all the major museums in London are free. Some major attractions have 2 for 1 specials if you buy the right transport ticket.

I have yet to see anybody say that they saved money with the London Pass. I have seen one or two who said that by moving really really quickly they came close to breaking even.

We bought the pass for our trip coming up next month. I decided to get it because many of the sights on the pass are places that are higher priority for us to visit, compared with other sights that aren't included on the pass. So I calculated the admission prices versus the pass and it came out to a better deal for us. That being said though, the pass was on sale when I purchased it and was practically three days for the price of two so it was a good deal. We did not buy the travel card.

You're on the right track with the advice above. Our sightseeing preferences in London include several of the free, state-run museums and just a few sites that are covered by the London Pass. With these priorities, I've never gotten around to visiting the zoo, aquarium, or Madame Tussaud's.
