Base for the Cotswolds

I’m looking for suggestions for a base in the Cotswolds. We were hoping to base ourselves somewhere for a week, rent a car and do day trips from there. We’d like to explore towns and happy to get a 10K walk each day. Prefer a loop walk to an out a back.
Open to any ideas. Thanks so much.

Winchcombe. Nice loop from town to Sudley Castle. Or take the Cotswolds way to Bella’s nap and back.
Or drive to Broadway and hike to Broadway Tower.

Great spots to eat;
Hunter’s Tea Room in Broadway
Russell’s Fish and Chips Broadway
White Hart Inn Winchcombe
William’s of Winchcombe

Lastly, throughly enjoyed the Snowshill Arms. Loved everything there. The church St Barnabas and cemetery across the road, and the village feeling.
Had a car and as I drove around was pleased to have discovered Halies Abbey.

Put Cotswolds in the search option above and you will be taken to RS’s useful plan and map for visiting the area. For walks etc. the Ordnance Survey maps show, public footpaths, ruins, archaeological sites, castles etc and can really help with planning where to stay. A lot of people on the Forum recommend staying in Stow-on-the-Wold but there are other small towns that would work. If you prefer a larger town, consider Cheltenham, 18th cent. spa town, or Cirencester with its pre-Roman origins. Both towns are on the edge of the Cotswolds and will provide access to walks in interesting areas and both have good transportation links by road, rail or bus, to other places like Worcester, Warwick, Stratford-Upon-Avon etc. Be aware that many country roads in the Cotswolds are narrow and twisty.

You might want to subscribe to the Ordnance Survey app. The as mentioned OS produces incredible large scale maps of the UK, with great detail. Ideal for choosing walks to suit you and your interests.

Agree with Claudia about Winchcombe - delightful village with lots of interesting places nearby.

Used an Airbnb/VRBO in Stow-on-the-Wold. At least 3 pubs; a good Tesco. Very central for everywhere we wanted to visit. I would highly recommend the village and the place we stayed.

Thanks so much for all of your suggestions. We’ve bought our flights and I can’t wait to sit down and do more planning after Christmas.

In Broadway, The Olive Branch Guest House is lovely, as is hostess Suzanne. Food is fabulous. Plenty of hiking options available, with or without a car.
