We are looking for a base for a three night stay so we can visit Brighton, Rye, Battle, Beachy Head etc. any suggestions? Not sure I want to stay in busy Brighton. Would be in May. Thanks so much.
Why not stay in Rye? Lovely part of England.

Car or no car?
I presume you will have a car as it will take ages on public transport. Even so, the road between Brighton and Rye is prone to traffic jams, so this could easily take 2 hours. For that reason, I wouldn’t stay in Brighton or Rye themselves.
Beachy Head isn’t very exciting. The walk from Friston down to the coast is pretty.
My base camp suggestions would be Lewes - lovely town; Eastbourne for lots of accommodation choices; the traditional villages around Herstmonceux or Battle. I would avoid Hailsham and Newhaven. Hastings Old Town is pretty, but parking is difficult.
