Barnstaple, Devon

Hi,

In June, we will be visiting my husband's family in Barnstaple. We will be there for around 2 weeks. Hanging out with family is the main reason for our stay, but I am looking for some fun places to visit in the area. We will have a car and two kids (7, 10). We've been to England many times, but usually stay in Yeovil. I've started researching, but I was hoping for some little gems that would be in the area. We are all fans of historical properties and usually visit National Trust locations whenever possible.

Thanks!

Clovelly and Hartland Point are not far away. You're not far from the top half of Dartmoor, and could probably drive to Castle Drogo in about an hour. If you can stand a drive of about 90 mins, I'd recommend Coleton Fishacre which is an interesting art deco house and wonderful gardens.

Exactly the ideas I am looking for! Thank you! Clovelly looks like a really nice little place. We are happy to drive 1-2 hours to visit some interesting places.

Tintagel is south of Barnstaple (1hr 20 minute drive), Tintagel is connected with the legend of King Arthur. Then 10 miles south of Tintagel is Port Isaac where they film the great show Doc Martin. Both on the northern coastline. If yo want to go down to ther southern coast Mevagissey is a wonderful fishing village, it would be a 2 hr drive.
