Hello! We’ll be in London during the bank holiday at the end of May. Any suggestions for this holiday? Should we stay in town, or do a day trip elsewhere? Thank you!
I’d suggest staying in London. Most tourist sites, shops, and restaurants will be open. There are often engineering works on the tube or rail lines on long weekends, so pay attention to transportation changes.
Everything will be open as usual except offices, schools and banks of course. Shops, restaurants and tourist attractions do not close.
It might not be the best time to visit sights especially popular with families--like the British Museum. (Though the ground floor there is nearly always crowded.)
Thank you!
We actually went to the British Museum last year on the Friday of this particular bank holiday and were able to walk right in. We arrived there around 1:00 p.m. and only found crowds in the gift shop and around the Rosetta Stone. We had no problem finding seats in the cafe area when we stopped for a snack. The weather was really nice, so maybe people were doing more outside activities. The areas around Oxford Circus and Leicester Square were pretty packed.
