Is anyone aware of baggage storage facilities near Windsor Castle? Thus far I am having no luck in finding a place. Thanks!
How are you getting to Windsor? I haven't been there, but I know it is not terribly far from Heathrow Airport, and there are lots of hotels at or near Heathrow. I think if you walk up to a counter of a hotel when it is not terribly busy with a £5 note in your hand, the staff will probably be quite happy to see you. That worked for me once in Italy when I had no other options. I also made the same request at a not-busy bar in a small Spanish town; those folks were happy to help but wouldn't even take my money.
Baggage storage is available at the castle itself:

Thanks, @Michael! I have a 2015 version of the guidebook and it said no baggage storage, so they must have changed it. Yay! Have you used this service?
@acraven, that's a good idea, but from what I've learned on these boards and via Google Maps, it's actually way harder to get to/from Heathrow and Windsor than from Windsor to central London. So while we do plan on sleeping the night before at an airport hotel and taking the bus to Windsor, we do not want to have to come back to Heathrow to pick up luggage; it basically tacks on an extra hour of travel time. It's crazy because if you look at the map, Windsor and Heathrow appear to be quite close but there's not very good public transportation between the two. So ideally we'd leave straight from Windsor (with luggage) to our hotel in central London. I know some would say just go to the central London hotel the night we land, but we are already landing at 8:30pm and I'm sure it will take at least an hour to get out of the airport. By that time it will be dark and 9:30 (at best) and I don't feel like trying to go into the city at night with 2 kids and luggage in tow.
You're welcome. In addition to the Castle these private business will also store bags:

The Googling I did before my initial response uncovered a comment to the effect that Windsor Castle has a restrictive size limit for luggage storage. There was something about the luggage having to fit through an airport-style screening device and needing to be no larger than carry-on size. I don't remember where I read that, but do look for details before counting on using storage facilities at the castle if your bags are not small.
Ooh, I haven't seen Stasher before - that's a good one. I checked Bagbnb but it didn't have anything in Windsor.
All we'll have is carry-on size bags, so the Castle storage should be fine, but I do like knowing about backups if needed!
We took our bags back to Heathrow, put them in left luggage, and then took a bus and train to Windsor. We didn't have to worry about hauling our bags around. The people at the airport told us which buses/trains to take, it wasn't a bad journey. We got back in time to catch our plane to Scotland.
Hi, Kelly, Wondering if you completed your trip and stored your bags at Windsor Castle as you planned? I'm going to do the same thing in July and was curious if you had a successful experience with this plan? Thanks, Cathy
@CathyB, I haven't gone yet, sorry! (I will admit this trip is for NEXT summer. Yes, I'm a "that far ahead" planner.) Ha!
Just an update that I visited Windsor in July 2019 on my train trip back from Moreton in Marsh and I was able to store my carry-on bag at the Clarion Collection Harte & Garter Hotel, 31 High Street, even though I was not a guest at this hotel.
I had sent an email inquiry to them and received a reply from their Reception Manager that they offer this service at no charge. This hotel is on the walking route from the Central Train Station and was a better option than lugging my bag up the hill to the State Apts. I could also shop after my Castle visit and enjoy lunch and tea before re-claiming my bag.
I would suggest contacting the hotel prior to your departure and taking their reply with you when you arrive at their Reception Desk. https://www.harteandgarterhotel.com/
