Going to be spending 3 nights in York this spring. Will be training in from Manchester Airport. Would like to stay in the historical center. All recommendations appreciated.
We stayed at Abbeyfields B&B which is 3 blocks outside the city center, near the train station and gardens. The street has older houses, which is still in the historic area, just not the center. Great breakfasts, knowledgable owners and comfortable rooms. Parking on the street, which you may find difficult in the city center.
Gail thanks. Will take a look. Were flying in so car parking won't be a problem.
It is also an easy walk to the B&B.
We liked the Abbey Guest House a few years ago, on the river a short walk from the station and another short walk from the Minster and pedestrian center of the city. From the website it looks like a change of owners since our stay, but still looks fine.
Stayed at the Montclare Guesthouse. Nice hosts, good breakfast, comfortable room.
We stayed at 'The Hazelwood' in May of this year, 2015. It is in a great location just outside of the City Walls. Easy walk to train station. Very close to where you pick up free City Tours.
The breakfasts were good, but the room was not clean when we arrived. Housekeeping did not do a very good job either.
Also, this is not a bed and breakfast situation. More like an impersonal hotel.
I would not recommend this to anyone.
