Avanti West Coast trains London Euston to Birmingham, Manchester, Scotland etc

As a consequence of difficulties getting enough drivers, Avanti West Coast who run the fast inter city trains from London Euston announced today a HUGE cut in the trains they will run until at least 11 September.

Only 4 of their trains will leave Euston every hour compared to a timetabled approx 20. There will be one to each of the 4 major destinations.

Birmingham, for example, is used to every 20 minutes - so 3 trains will be 1.

Manchester, Liverpool and Lake District are the most popular destinations that are affected by this.

Travelling to Scotland a viable alternative exists in the form of London-Edinburgh then connecting train to Glasgow from there, however for Manchester and Liverpool alternative travel options are a bit more limited - London-Chesterfield-Mancs/Liv is my first thought, or York as the changeover.

All of this said, it may not too badly affect tourists who tend to buy tickets in advance anyway.
