Audley End House and Gardens

I stumbled upon information about Audley End House and Gardens (located in Saffron Walden, Essex) while browsing YouTube. It looks like the kind of place I'd love to visit, and would be an easy day trip from either London or Cambridge. https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/audley-end-house-and-gardens/

The history section of the Audley End website is amazingly rich and detailed, and the "Things to See and Do" section looks like they offer a great range of visitor experiences.

On a lighter note, there's a butler called Mr. Lincoln who does a fabulous job on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_dLqJBfPv4 I love how the closed caption says "Jolly Music" at the beginning of this Christmas video. This man could have his own TV series, as far as I'm concerned, LOL.

epitd, thanks for those links!
I am about halfway through the video at this point, and you're right; it's great.

If you go to Audley End House and Gardens, be sure to walk around the town of Saffron Walden. I think you will enjoy the medieval half-timbered buildings there. The best are on Church Street and Bridge Street; Castle Street is worth a look, too.

I always take my American friends to visit Audley End house having grown up nearby. It is often overlooked by the international crowd but in fact, if you are going to Cambridge, it is less than a 20-minute train journey. (On the line to London - so many trains each day). It is a very easy day trip or 1/2 day trip from Cambridge. You can walk (just over a mile) to the house from the station but I would take a taxi as the walk is alongside a busy road. Buses 590, 59, and 60 (all Mon to Fri) run from the station and stop close to Audley End. Saffron Walden is also a quaint market town interesting to walk around and look at the medieval half-timbered buildings. There use to be art galleries, gift shops, pottery, and antique places but I have not been to the town since Covid hit so not sure what is there now.

Also, if you are in Cambridge, take the 15 min train ride in the other direction to Ely Cathedral. We went last year and I was in awe of the cathedral. We also had a nice lunch at The Almonry Restaurant & Tea Rooms then we walked through town downhill to the river to see the canal boats and back to the train station.

My Mum grew up for part of her childhood in the 1930's in Saffron Walden.
I went back there years later and found it just charming.
I'd love to see it again.
I seem to remember she would write to her family still there and the address had Audley End in it.
I'll watch those videos this week, thanks for the links!
