ATMs at Gatwick

We usually get our local currency at ATM machines. I am a little confused by the London Gatwick airport website about what they call Cash Machines by saying they accept all UK cards. Do they accept cards from the US? If not I need to order some cash before I get there. Can anyone clear this up for me?

Thanks!

Sure they accept U.S ATM cards. Suggest you look for an ATM belonging to a bank for a better rate, however.

I've never had any trouble at Gatwick with duff rates.

The term ATM is an americanism - the machines used to be called "hole in the wall" here - now generally known as cashpoints or cash machines.

Make sure when you use one you get charged in the local currency - in this case Pounds Sterling. Do not accept to be charged in your home currency - that is called DCC - and it will cost you more money. Some machines and some credit card machines can be quite persuasive. Read carefully.
