ATM's in Gatwick?

I will be flying in to Gatwick, and while I know ATM's are generally omnipresent, does anyone know if they are easy to spot at the Gatwick terminal? British Pounds are one currency I do not have, and I want to make sure I have a bit of liquidity right off.

Dropped off a car in Gatwick in May and saw an ATM at the ticketing area of the train station. The reason I noticed the contraption was due to having already been in England for a week and not once needing to use cash! Suspect ATM’s are destined for same fate as phone booths. Spent another ten days in London and still did not use cash, so left England with the same 20 pounds I brought with me left over from prior trip. Make sure your credit card has no foreign transaction fees and expect to use it everywhere. Enjoy your journey.

There is a huge difference between not needing to use cash and not wanting to use cash.

A very large number of people still exclusively or mainly use cash, because they are low paid and/or in the gig economy. There is still a significant part of the population who are not able to obtain credit due to their income levels.

In the real world, outside tourist bubble areas, there are still cash only shops. I am on the edge of the Lake District but locally have quite a few cash only shops, especially takeaway food shops.

I don't think any of my local fish and chip shops accepts Credit Cards for instance.

Nowhere in my area is card only. If they tried to go that way they would not survive, such are the numbers of people who use cash.

The airport website says they have more than 70 ATMs across both terminals. But their terminal maps do not appear to have that level of detail.

Yes, and the majority of them will most likely be Euronet or Travelex ATMs, resulting in unfavorable terms for the user.

So try to find a cash machine operated by a British bank. Oe wait until you get into London proper.

Gatwick ATMs are all run by ChangeGroup. Sterling withdrawals made over the LINK network are free others need to be checked for charges.

isn31c says many places he frequents are cash only. Interesting, as I've not had to use cash anywhere I've been in the UK for the past 4 weeks, including some pretty remote spots.

Correction: I used cash to tip a caddie at Royal Dornoch, and my wife had to use cash to pay a GP doc in Inverness when she became very ill. So I guess we've spent about 130 GBP in total.

In the UK far more places would be less likely to survive if they went cash only. I genuinely can't remember the last time I used cash anywhere in the UK or withdrew some from an ATM. The handful of notes in my wallet have been there for as long as I can remember and I even now find myself leaving the house without my wallet as I use my phone to make purchases.

All the people who I used to pay in cash now accept online transfers and the few establishments that I have encountered that will only accept cash don't receive my custom as the likelihood they do so is for tax avoidance purposes. The only takeaway in my area that went cash only was a Chinese during Covid but they rapidly went back to accepting card payments.

Any visitor to the UK can easily spend their duration here without needing cash.
