ASLEF Rail Strike 1 September

ASLEF have today announced a strike on Friday 1 September.

This is in addition to the RMT strike the following day.

ASLEF strikes (the train drivers in simple terms) are generally more disruptive than the RMT strikes- for instance Avanti have so far been unable to run any service on an ASLEF strike day.

Details of services to follow in a week to 10 days time, but expect and plan for severe disruption.

They will also ban overtime on Saturday 2 September, so that day will be more disruptive than 26 August. Plans B and C should now focus on other modal choices that day.

South Eastern trains (to Kent) and Southern Trains ( to Sussex and the South Coast) will run no services at all on 1 September - announcement at Victoria when I was there very late last night.
The only exception is a very limited non stop southern service, in lieu of Gatwick Express, from Gatwick to Victoria.
Thameslink are also running no service.
London North Western Railway are also running no trains that day.
Greater Anglia are only running the Norwich to London, Stansted airport to London and Southend Victoria to London routes.
Avanti West Coast, Trans Pennine. Chiltern Railways and Northern Rail are running no services.

For anyone visiting Harry Potter land at Watford, the only trains running will.be the all.stations London Overground "DC" trains from Euston.

Bletchley will have no service.

Murphy's Law, we have to travel from London to Nuneaton on September 1st to visit my son in law's family. Bus tickets already purchased. Now getting from Nuneaton to London to catch the Eurostar on September 3rd? We are still working that issue. I support labor so do what you need to do!

Heathrow Express is running half hourly between 8am and 7 pm.

The Elizabeth Line should be operating normally from Heathrow as Transport for London are not party to the dispute.
Details are not yet confirmed but it may not run East of Liverpool Street due to other companies closures that day.

Update from TfL this morning-

Although TfL staff are not taking strike action, there may be some minor impacts to TfL services.

So they are expecting the Elizabeth line and London Overground (which is a whole network of suburban overground routes- what could very loosely be seen as the equivalent of an S Bahn system in a German city) to run as normal. Most of the overground beyond the Watford Junction line is barely known to tourists but has a number of very useful central London avoiding routes.
