Our family will be traveling to London in October. Our flight lands at 22:45 and I was thinking I read somewhere that the last train leaves Heathrow at 23:00. Can anyone tell me if this is correct? If we aren't able to use the tube, what is the next best form of transportation to reach our hotel?
You haven't said which terminal you are arriving at, or which day of the week or how many people are travelling.
The last underground train is between 23:15 and 23:45 depending on the combination of the above factors.
The last Heathrow Express runs around 23:41 to 23:53.
You might prefer to prebook a car service for peace of mind which might be economical anyway with your numbers. There is ultimately a night bus.
There will be three of us, we arrive on a Sunday at Terminal 3.
Sunday the underground finishes on the earlier times, from Heathrow Central at 23:28. So you'd be cutting things really fine relying on that, even though the airport would be relatively less crowded than earlier in the day.
Also bear in mind that 22:45 is scheduled wheels down. Throw in retrieving baggage, getting through customs and traversing one of the planet's largest airports and it could easily take you an hour-plus just to reach your train.
22:45 is not scheduled wheels down, landing time, or anything else except scheduled door opening time. Just as xx:xx is not scheduled take off time -- it's just door closing time.
