Arriving at Heathrow on Christmas Day ... using Uber and what is open?

Hello,

We are taking a family trip to England over winter break. We arrive mid-day at Heathrow. I have read older Forum posts about private options from the airport to London as public transport is closed for the holiday. However, with the advent of Uber, I think things may have changed in the last couple years.

My questions:
- What transport services should we check out to get us from Heathrow to the Kings Cross area? There are five of us, so we don't have a lot of extra cash to spare.
- What should we expect to be open on Christmas, primarily, and Boxing Day? Specifically grocery stores, restaurants, pubs, etc?

- Any suggestions for 5 tired Yanks (including 3 teens/tweens) to do on Christmas Day afternoon to orient ourselves to London?

Thank you very much!
Mindy

Thank you. We'll research restaurants and pubs in the area that are open on Christmas. And we look forward to the walking!

I would think once the 5 of you are settled, have located the closest ATM, and discovered if any nearby supermarkets are open that you...
1.) stock up on some food items
2.) discover if any pubs are serving Xmas dinner and make reservations.
3.) visit and explore St. Pancras station. A brilliant do over. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NgqcajDz9aY. Christmas decorations will be up as well.
4.) if weather is good and you truly wish to walk, head to Regents Park then make the climb to atop Primerose hill for a lovely view of London. From there meander along the canal walk into and thru Chalk Farm and Camden. Use google maps birds eye view to plan your walk.

Should be a lovely sojourn. Londoners will be out and about, riding new bikes, wearing new coats, babies in prams, walking their dogs, enjoying their family time. You do the same.

Thank you all - great suggestions. I am now much closer to having a car service booked and a pub identified for Christmas Day dinner.
