Arrival day in London- favorite spot for dinner

First week of October arriving at LHR 11:40 am.
Plan is to check in to hotel in Victoria area and have a walk down to Big Ben and along Whitehall towards Trafalgar square to see the sights, take some pictures and stay awake until dinner time
What is your favorite spot for first night dinner?

What ever pub grub is near my accommodation.

In that area consider The Clarence, Horse and Guardsman or the Two Chairman.

If you're specifically asking about a restaurant somewhat near Trafalgar Square:

  • Hoppers
  • The Palomar
  • Maison François
  • Berenjak Soho
  • Cinnamon Bazaar
  • Plaza Khao Gaeng
  • Imad’s Syrian Kitchen
  • Din Tai Fung Covent Garden
  • The French House

Those places are good. Tough to give the best recommendation with no specific criteria.

Two weeks ago we arrived and did the same walk. We made a 5:30 reservation for Dishoom Covent Garden, and we enjoyed it.
It's not far from Trafalgar Square.

Thank you for the replies.
Looking for something that feels like "we are in London!" Not fancy, but different from our three regular choices at home (chicken, burgers, or pizza) And also deciding is not something we are great at when we are hungry and tired.

@Claudia
The pub menus look amazing! I think they are leading so far and even my picky eater can find something she likes :)

There's a Hobsons Fish and Chips not far from Trafalgar Square. That's where we ate on our arrival day this summer. Nothing says "Welcome to the UK" to us like fish and chips. And they've got a gluten free menu, which may or may not matter to you but was needed for our travel party.

Claudia, I sense you and I would travel well together.

If you want something which includes traditional offerings, there is a Brown's up St Martins Lane from Trafalgar Square. There is also one in Cardinal Place off Victoria Street.

If arriving after a transatlantic flight, I prefer a pub with a good menu or similar near my hotel. Save the "special" restaurants for later when jet lag is not an issue.

Claudia's pub choices are good.

Do hope the OP shares where they went.

jphbucks ….. i throughly enjoy a good pub cuz I Love people watching, food is fine, I can use the loo and after walking for miles the 1 pint of Guinness relaxes tired muscles. There’s a big bonus in appreciation if there’s a pub pet.; Rudi at the Mitre Richmond, The General at the Seven Stars. Makes me smile!
