Area near imperial War museum in London?

how would you rate it as an area to stay in while visiting London?

Just found an inexpensive apartment there but had not looked into this area before.

Thank you for any and all advice.

From a tourist perspective, I've spent next to no time in that neighborhood. It's certainly good if you want to visit the IWM itself and I've identified a few likely-looking Indian/Pakistani take-aways. You could be talking about anywhere in a wide area, so if you want Londoners to reply, you should provide the street address. From the museum itself, expect a minimum one-mile walk to typical tourist attractions along the Thames. The real key is proximity of the actual address to a Tube station (which is usually also a bus stop).

The area is very good . We stayed in a new place (2014 ) on Waterloo Road , short walk to Waterloo Station and the tube , and only a few blocks to the War Museum . I would go back without hesitation .

I wish I had the exact address but airbnb does not show it and the owners only reveal it after you book. The description says directly across from the Imperila War Museum. I looked at the area on google maps but I couldn't get a good read on the area......looked OK but I can't really tell much from it.

I'm torn between staying somewhere really trendy close to everything for $1000 more or somewhere not as trendy and saving the money.

Since this is a 31 day trip.....I am finding it hard to decide.

The area by the IWM is a regular neighborhood. The location is excellent. A few minutes of walking takes you to 4 bridges, the Eye, the South Bank, maybe 20 minutes walk to Borough Market, tube stop (Bakerloo) is 1 long block above the IWM, many different buses stop around there, many pubs and restaurants. We've stayed there on 4 trips in the last 3+ eyars, in an excellent accommodation (not AirBnB) across from the IWM.

We were at the Museum last year and I echo the feeling that it's a regular neighborhood rather than a tourist area. Your access to buses will probably be better than the tube, but Lambeth North station is n easy walk. For that price difference, I'd stay there. My daughter lived on Lambeth Rd. closer to the river, but that was 7 years ago and I can't guarantee what it's like at night now - back then she felt safe in that neighborhood at night (as a single woman).

Would you give us the link to this AirBnB listing near IWM?

Where is the trendy location?

One fun bit of info: The Imperial War Museum is in the building that used to be the Bethlehem Hospital; otherwise known as Bedlam the hospital for the Insane. The neighborhood has many different urban layers including some fun Flea or Street Markets. Check London Street Market Web site.

The trendy one was near covent garden right at a place called Seven Dials that was said to be 10 minutes walk to covent Garden, Leceister square, Piccadilly Circus etc...... it looked like such a hip happening area but I could be really wrong.

Seven Dials is slap bang in the middle of central London – I wouldn’t call it hip – maybe corporate trendy. It’s obviously very convenient to all the nightlife of the West End. Then again $1000 might be better in your pocket.

Few places in central London are unsuitable for tourists. The one near the IWM could work if you knew the street.

I haven't used airbnb before so I don't know if this is possible but could you contact the owners to ask a question and your question would be about their location? Even the block they are on would be very helpful to you.

EDIT: A few years ago we corresponded with a family who lived very close to the IWM about a possible home exchange. We knew it wouldn't be in the most touristy part of London (we'd been to the IWM several times before) but we found a lot to like about this area and wouldn't have hesitated to stay there.
