Apt. in Kensington or Notting Hill

Hi,
Family of 4 with 2 teenagers traveling to London for 7 nights, so planning to rent an apartment. I've seen two I like--one in South Kensington and one in Notting hill. Which area would be better located for visiting main tourist sites?

Thanks!

Kensington and Notting Hill are basically next to each other, Kensington just west of Hyde Park and Notting Hill just north of Kensington. If you're thinking of South Kensington, south of Hyde Park, that might be a better choice simply because of faster Tube connections to more places of interest. But there's really not much difference on that score. I'd base my choice on the specific apartment and immediate neighborhood.

I'd say go for South Kensington. Tube stops near Gloucester Road and South Kensington and can walk to the Victoria & Albert Museum, Science Museum, Natural History Museum. Further on is Knightsbridge so you can walk to Harrods if you like. And you can also walk to the Kensington Gardens.

If you have teenagers, Notting Hill is a bit more "hip and cool" than Kensington. Lots of independent shops and eateries and a younger population in general. Kensington is very nice but quite a bit more "bottoned up" than Notting Hill.
