We would like to rent an apartment in the Fall in London for a month or more. Does anyone have experience with this? Is VRBO the way to go or do you recommend another route.
We had a wonderful experience renting from London Perfect. We chose to stay in Chelsea.
Have rented three times from www.londonconnection.com. American owned, locally an excellent staff, lovely apartments. For a long stay, ask for a discount since they save by not having to turn the apartment over several times.

You might also want to look at the website for At Home in London. I have only done short in-home stays with them, but I know some of their residences require longer stays and are full apartments.
I have used VRBO twice with no problem. Enjoy your stay!
Try London Connections, they're based out of Seattle, we had good luck and excellent service. https://londonconnection.com/
You are cutting it close though, Trying to find a place for a month this close to fall could be challenging.
I have used vrbo many times when traveling to Europe and have never had a problem. I have never tried air B&B as their offerings have never interested me as much as vrbo. I booked an apartment in London for later this year and was surprised to find that the owner was the same person from whom I had rented an apartment in Barcelona. What a happy coincidence! (She only has 2 apartments and lives in 1). It's quite a bit out of center in zone 2. It will probably take 45 minutes or so to get from the apartment to the center of London. If you don't mind being out of center I would highly recommend Anne-Marie's apartment on Grove Park. One bedroom with the patio. A fireplace should you need it as well as parking. This area is called alternatively Denmark Hill and South Camberwell. There was also a great looking apartment in Camberwell owned by Jillian. Almost directly across from the park (I think it was Camberwell green).
Another endorsement for London Connections. We rented a place in Kensington from them for a one week stay and had excellent communication and service from them. They also arrange for airport pick-up and drop-off for a very reasonable price (55 pounds for us, traveling with a toddler and all his paraphernalia, so we needed a larger car - you might get a cheaper rate if you have fewer people and need a smaller vehicle).
We just returned from a 7 night stay at an apartment in Covent Garden from London Connection and I would use them again. It went very smoothly. Great locations.
We have used homeaway.com, which is a part of vrbo, several times in Germany and once in England. Our trip last year we rented a terrific apartment off of tripadvisor, it was a great experience. I'll be happy to pass along the information if you like.
