Has anyone visited Stourhead in May? I would love to hear about your experience. How much time do you think I should allow for it? Also, did you have to buy tickets ahead of time for it?
Thanks!

I would allow 1-2 hours to circle the lake and more time if you want to explore the house. Weekends in May I'm sure are busy but a weekday should be just fine.
I visited in May and thought it was brilliant. Allow about 2 hours.
Hi James,
Thank you very much for your information. My husband and I are trying to plan a day that (we think) will include Stourhead, Avebury, and maybe Stonehenge, and we wanted to know how much time to plan for our Stourhead visit. We are staying in Salisbury, so we are hoping that this is doable. Stourhead will definitely be our top priority.
And THANK YOU so much for your stunning pictures! They are magnificent!!!!
They have really intensified my excitement about going!! We hope to have just as magnificent weather as you did the time you took these pictures.
Regards,
Virginia
Hi Darren,
Thank you so much for your advice about the time needed for seeing Stourhead!

BTW, I was interested to see that you are from Galt. I lived in California for about 30 years. 3 years of that time was spent living in Lodi...just a hop, skip, and jump down 99 from Galt (if my memory serves me correctly) We always liked Galt...very nice agricultural and rather rural area.
Virginia,
More like a hop to Galt, lol. I think that you will have plenty of time to do that trip as you can arrive early to Stourhead and you will enjoy Avebury as you really can wander about the stones as they lie around the village. Please feel free to DM me if you need any other advice etc. I have traveled there every year since 1995 and really know my way around.
Also, I highly recommend doing the "Inside the Circle" at Stonehenge, book early though !! We did the sunrise one and loved it and the info. is on there website. !! Then you could drive to Stourhead from there and hit Avebury on the way back to Salisbury.
Virginia: Stourhead, Avebury & Stonehenge are all viable as a day trip from Salisbury. You really need the sunshine to bring out the colours at Stourhead - grey sky = grey lake! So, check weather forecast and if only half of day is sunny, choose that half for Stourhead.
