Anyone else having difficulties with Great Western Railway App?

Downloaded their app to iPhone to book RT London to Bath. For two days the app is telling me "technical issues" or upon registering it tells me "email address already in use." I've deleted and downloaded the app a few times and still same messages. Is there an updated app somewhere else? Had no issues booking Edinburgh-York, York-London via LNER's app.

You don't need to use a specific operators app. I use Uber to book all my trains. If the LNER app works for you then just use that to book your trip to Bath.

Yeah, GWR has been messed up since their update. I've been using TransPennine Express since I can book reservations only on them.

Oh!! I didn't know I could book a GWR train through the LNER app. I thought they were separate companies and routes, but under the UK National Rail System (I have that app too)? We're not traveling until May 31st so I'll wait a couple days and if I still can't book through GWR's app, I'll do as you suggest.

You really don’t need to use any particular app. I do the same as Olivia and book all my trains on the Uber app.

Especially for making seat reservations TPE is very good. Intuitive and easy. Far better than GWR ever was, working or otherwise.
I was making seat reservations at almost midnight last night for today (using our version of a Britrail pass), having changed my plans for the day totally. Dead easy, even with matchsticks holding my eyes open.

As has been noted, tickets can be purchased through any train operating company.

There may be a couple issues impacting the OP. GWR recently updated their website and app, that required account holders to reset passwords. OP did you have an accout prior to the update, or have you only recently created a new account? Plus for whatever reason the GWR app does not work outside the UK. If I open the app at home, I've always gotten -

Something not working? Our app works best in the UK. If you are experiencing problems using our app outside the UK, you can use our website www.gwr.com instead. if you are attempting to sign-in to download your tickets, please try again when you are inside the UK.

Personally, no matter the TOC I've always purchased tickets through their websites, saved the delivered eticket to Samsung Notes as a backup and use the app to retrieve tickets.

Hello Virginia and thank you for replying. The app still won’t work for me, but maybe it’s because I’m in the U.S.? I had not had an account t prior. I found a work around in that I used a different email address and was able to make an account and purchase tickets through GWR website, so at least I can print a paper copy. Maybe when I arrive in the UK the app will open, but I’m good if not.

Yep, the app is geographically restricted, and GWR does cover this on their website, "...the app will only fully function if you are within the UK. However, our website GWR.com can be used outside of the UK to purchase tickets. Any e-tickets you have purchased through the website, will be available on the app once you are in the UK."

So you are good to go. Once in the UK you can log into the GWR app and you will find the tickets you purchased in there. You can print and use a paper copy of your ticket as you've planned, or you can use the ticket from the e-mail on your mobile device.

I haven’t had any success in getting the GWR app to work, even though I’m now in the UK. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling on my iPhone, but no success. It won’t search at all, just says it’s having technical issues.
The LNER app works well.

Just for comparison for trouble shooting- before the update I had no problem using the GWR site from the US.
