Anybody seen a concert at St. Martin in the Fields?

I would like to go to a Christmas concert during my stay. However, the only seats left are the 'side aisle unreserved'. Does this mean that we have to stand the entire time? I thought it probably meant first come, first serve in terms of seats but was hoping someone on this board might have some insight.

I'm OK with limited view of the stage as I'm there for the music and atmosphere more than anything. In general are these concerts a great experience? As I've mentioned previously we only have limited time in the city and I want to make the most of it. I LOVE Christmas though (who doesn't right?) and thought this could be a special evening. I put my name in the lottery for the concert at St. Paul's but didn't get one so this sounded like a good second option.

We went to a lunchtime concert there this summer and sat on the side aisle. These seats face the audience, not the front . We couldn't see all of the performers, but the sound was wonderful. I would agree with your guess that "unreserved" means first come first served.

Not sure form your message when exactly you're in London, but if it's this week, you might want to consider the carols service at St Margaret's (Westminster Abbey) this Friday.

We are normally advance planners, but are on a short notice trip and wanted to attend a carols service. Most of them are understandably booked out - this one is still available and looks great.

This looks great too! We are going to a play at 7:30 that night so it might not work though. We'd have to run straight from the concert to the play....

Simon...St. Margaret's is a church adjacent to Westminster Abbey but it is not Westminster Abbey. That's why there are still tickets available. Just wanted to make sure this distinction was made.
