Hello!
I’ll be traveling to the UK in 2024 and will be making fairly frequent use of the national rail network (hoping for minimal disruptions) through England, Wales, and Scotland over a 3 week visit. I’ve priced out buying advance singles, but the 15-day consecutive Britrail pass seems it will provide me with a lot better flexibility and simplicity for my particular itinerary.
I’m curious if anyone has used mobile “M-Pass” tickets recently? (they apparently send you a PDF you can load on your phone in lieu of a ticket). I know in the past, the mobile passes have not worked well at the automated ticket barriers at stations, but I’ve heard a few hints and rumors that these issues have been getting fixed over the past year or so.
Has anyone here used a Britrail pass recently (say, in the past year, especially the past 6 months or so)? Did you have any trouble at the ticket barriers to access the platforms, or any other trouble using the pass? This isn’t a deal-breaker for me; I know I can find a member of staff to get me through if necessary, but it would be a nice bonus if the mobile passes finally worked like a proper e-ticket and I didn't have to be that bumbling American causing issues with a weird ticket.
Would love to hear your experiences actually using Britrail. Thanks all!
