another week of fun and games (not) on Southern trains

3 day strike by drivers from next Monday. Likely to shut down virtually all Southern services.

The government - using Southern as proxy - are still trying to remove all the guards, and the drivers don't like it any more than the guards.

This will happen again at the end of the month.

I read an article I think in the Guardian about this - I feel for these people. And the money they are paying for passes! I guess when I decry the lack of trains in our province and our reliance on cars, mayhap I should count my lucky stars!

OTOH, Nicole, P, the cost of a season ticket plus the cost of a house some distance away is still lower than the cost of a home (or hovel) in London plus Tube.

The government is finally seeing sense and sitting down with a union. Only the transport gods know if anything will come out of it.

The government (ORR) has just acknowledged today that their study on Driver Only Operation is flawed.
