An amazing accomplishment for Princess Catherine!

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026/jun/28/kate-completes-three-peaks-challenge-to-raise-money-for-cancer-charity

She impresses me on so many levels. Just thankful she is in remission and is healing. To do this to draw attention to those facing serious health challenges and as a fund raiser for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity is just fantastic.

Edit: After Nigel’s post, I went on a bit of educational research about the Princess. I have learned that Catherine, Princess of Wales, most often introduces herself as Catherine. Kate was a nickname she had while at university and is only used by the press. (And apparently she doesn’t care for it) So, to make sure my title ensures this dear young woman receives the respect she so deserves, on all fronts, I changed the title of this post. :)

I haven’t seen the other two peaks, but Ben Nevis was stunning. And formidable looking! I would be impressed if she had just completed that climb.

The Three Peaks is a popular hiking challenge often done for charity. It involves walking up Ben Nevis, Scarfell Pike and Snowdon in a set period, often 24hours.
It’s definitely tough but doable by a reasonably fit person. A good friend of mine did it a few years ago, finishing with Ben Nevis where she finally ‘lost’ quite a few toe nails!

I think this is awesome! How does she even have time to train? Even “reasonably fit” level requires some work.

Yes, the very one. One of the things I really appreciate about her is her down to earth demeanor, so I opted for the less formal title to reflect that. That and over here (and there it seems) the press frequently uses “Kate” rather than Catherine, so I thought it was acceptable. She seems like such a good human being. We need more of people like her in the world!

It is amazing - to someone as unfit as me! But it is not rare, especially around the "shortest night" at mid summer. For many years the british rail industry has been supporting a children's charity by taking a trainload of people on the challenge! And she only just missed them this year, they met at Crewe station on Thursday evening and were taken on a special train to Bangor, then bussed to the foot of Snowdon, which they must have climbed in semi darkness over midnight to be back on the train at 04:30 for a ride (and presumably sleep) to Ravenglass where a special a narrow gauge steam train to them to the start of the climb of Scafell PIke. Then back on the train by 19:00 for an overnight ride to Fort WIlliam for the final trek up Ben Nevis. And finally they board the train early afternoon for the ride back to Crewe.

If you are into stuff like ironman challenges or ultra marathons, and you plus 3 similar minded friends want to add this to your list you can register interest for 2027 now, you don't have to be railway but it might help to understand some of the conversations. Points for spotting the british railway staff hi-viz in the video! https://www.railwaychildren.org.uk/events/three-peaks-by-rail/

good post

there are a good number of people with her first name, or American nickname (shared by some red-tops) but only one Catherine, Princess of Wales.

That special was a very rare passenger train which used the Park South curve- the Barrow in Furness avoiding line- so one for the 'track bashers' as well.

Probably the first and only year it will route that way, diverted due to the Bransty tunnel closure

Even the Brittanic Explorer luxury train routes through Barrow on it's way from Askam-in-Furness to Appleby.

That is amazing, Mustlovedogs! I respect her a lot and think it's great that she did this! I love Ben Nevis—it's such a gorgeous mountains and it really is a tremendous feat. It sounds like she had a lot of support from her family, too.

She has always been sports oriented and fond of the outdoors. So it didn't come to me as a surprise. Great that she is using this as a fundraising opportunity. She's a strong and brave woman.

Not to take her merit away by any means, but I doubt she climbed "alone". I believe she did on her own without help or support, but a security guard most likely accompanied her as she will be the next queen consort (or whatever it's called). And someone alone would get more attention than say a pair. She had a private shuttle between peaks making it "easier". But still quite an accomplishment no doubt! I know someone who did the challenge before. I would probably be out of breath after climbing the first peak!

Less than two years from the completion of her preventative chemo, raising three children, trying to commit to pre-cancer diagnosis levels of work in her duties as a Royal…yes, I really respect her. Her family must be just so proud of her!

This is impressive; good for her! I climbed Snowdon 13 years ago, and when I finished, I never for one second thought, “I wish I could climb two more mountains today.” I know she’s 15 years younger than I was, but I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have wanted to climb the other two hills in my 40s either. What a nice fundraiser.

Saw some footage of her meeting a disabled lad being carried up I think Ben Nevis.
I had the good fortune to have the opportunity in 2016 to run all 3 while travelling the UK. Great trails. All 3 provided zero views from the summits however, heavy cloud.
