Am I crazy to stay in City of London for an upcoming trip?

I'm going to be in London for a week this fall and I've picked a nice, central hotel for that stay.

But now it turns out that I'm also going to be in London for two nights in April on my way to southern Spain.

For that two night stay, I'm flying into Heathrow and then out of London City airport.

I'm going to take the Elizabeth line in from the airport and will arrive at the Liverpool Street Station

For my one day in London, I am going to do the Tower of London and a 2pm London Walks tour that leaves from the Bank station.

The Docklands Light railway also leaves from the Bank station there to take me to my 9am flight.

Given all of this, does it make sense to stay somewhere between the Liverpool and Bank stations? Normally I would stay more central but...

Hi Valerie—-it better not be crazy, because we are doing exactly the same thing in September, on our way to Switzerland. We spend 2 nights in London and then fly to Zurich from London City Airport.

This is actually our favorite part of London, although we usually stay on the South Bank. This time we are staying in an apartment at Locke Broken Wharf, close to the river near Millennium Bridge. We will probably take a Black Cab from Liverpool,Street Station, but then walk to Bank Station to go to the airport.

The London Walk we signed up for starts at Monument Station.

@Lola - Thanks! That's very helpful! The Locke property is one I was considering:) I guess I'll trust my instinct and stay over there.

Given your trip plans it seems eminently sensible to have a hotel in that general area - Westminster station area would serve you well too as it gives District line for the Tower and Jubilee line for getting to London City airport via Canning Town, and is easily reached from Heathrow.

Remember to call it Liverpool Street Station - it matters in the UK and will cause confusion it you don’t!

This location is considerably more central than many others frequently recommended on here, such as Earl’s Court, Hammersmith and Kensington. And in my opinion more interesting too and less of a tourist dominated location.

I think it sounds entirely sensible. Locke Broken Wharf is an easy walk from Bank Station which after the recent rebuild is a far more customer friendly station.
Mansion House station is very close arriving from LHR with the customary cross platform change Piccadilly to District lines at Hammersmith or Barons Court.
There is also a Hub by Premier Inn between Cannon Street (next stop after Mansion House) and Bank stations, for even easier tube/DLR access.

The City - and outwards towards Whitechapel has seen a lot of new hotel / flats activity in recent years at various levels, often more affordable than equivalents in the West End or further west. This area was already well connected by transport and the Elizabeth line has enhanced it further.

We usually stay in Holborn (and will be there in a few weeks!), just slightly west of where you'll be, and love the location! For our interests (British Museum & Library, Inns of Court, churches for bellringing, theatre, Euston Station for trains north ... etc.) it's perfect. And we can get anywhere we want on the buses or Tube.

Looking at your travel plan, I won't say you're crazy. It has good access to transportation lines. Tower of London is also an iconic place to visit, but it can be a hell lot of crowded sometimes.
