Airports Flights London to Belfast

Opinion wanted
We will be flying on Saturday June 11 from London to Belfast. I believe we have these airports as places we could fly from.
Options: Gatwick, Heathrow, Stansted, London City Airport, Luton and Southend.
We will be staying in the Battersea area before flying to Belfast.
Any ideas on which airport would be simpler to get to, the relatives we will be staying with have a car, we could also take a bus, a train or taxi to an airport.
We will have luggage, full size, not carry on size.

Gatwick, Heathrow, Stansted, London City Airport, Luton and Southend.

I'd be surprised if they all have flights at a price you want and with luggage like yours.

Gatwick, not terrifically easy from Battersea, but get to London Victoria and you can be at Gatwick in just over half an hour, and often Easyjet has decent fares but will eat your lunch on luggage

Heathrow, easy for the rellies to drop you off, less easy on the tube from Battersea, probably the highest fares but most generous luggage allowances

Stansted, all the way in Essex. Surely you can find a decent fare closer.

London City Airport, only small planes, and usually expensive as it caters to business travellers; all the way across London - by the time your rellies could get you there you could be checked in at Heathrow

Luton, a long way to go unless you really must have that super cheap RyanAir flight that will go through the ceiling with the luggage and other fees

Southend - are they back in business? All the way to the end of the estuary, tiny airport, hard to get to by train or car, and if it is still going (I thought Stobart closed it) it will be on a shoestring

Just my observances - others may differ

Be aware that Belfast has two airports - the international airport about 12 miles from the city and the city airport right in the center of things.

Heathrow is the closest if being driven. Just under 30 minutes. Not easy via public transport.

Gatwick is easiest via pubic transit. If your friends are willing to drive you a short distance, have them drop you at Clapham Junction where you can pick up a Southern line train to Gatwick Airport. It will take your friends about 50-55 minutes to drive to Gatwick.

London City is about 45 minutes plus (depending on traffic). Also not easy by public transort.

The other airports are in another galaxy.

There is surprisingly not that much difference in total cost, between the various airlines, when extra costs for luggage are included.
We have done the Gatwick express to Victoria Station a few times and it does work well.

Stansted, Luton and Southend were included in my list just because they were on the list of possibilities, and I agree they appear to be far more difficult to get to and now they are off my list.
Yes , I know there are 2 airports in Belfast.

Next question; Does anyone know if there is a difference in car rental options, or ease of access between the George Best Airport and the International airport.
We will be flying 10 days later to Edinburgh and will be dropping the rental car off before the flight. There are flights from both airports to Edinburgh and it makes more sense to use the same airport for our arrival and departure from Belfast

Far be it from me to disagree with a local, but if I were going Battersea to Gatwick, I would go from Clapham Junction, not Victoria, and get a Southern service (not Gatwick Express). 45 minutes including time to get to Clapham Junction. I think that would be the easiest airport connection from Battersea.

happy to agree, but Clapham Junction has plenty of stairs and fewer lifts or escalators so might be more fun with luggage (especially the full sized mentioned in the OP) - also I'd rather settle myself in at the originating station especially if I had luggage rather than have to fight to find a seat after everybody else had found theirs and the train is moving.

Also Clapham Junction only had 3 coffee places the last time I looked and Victoria has lots...

If I had luggage and wanted to go to Gatwick, I wouldn’t want to navigate the behemoth that is Clapham Junction then try to move around a moving train to find a seat. I would get on at the start of the journey when you have time to board a stationary train.

I prefer Gatwick to Heathrow or Stansted. London City is small and therefore easier to navigate but has few flights.

Good points about starting a journey at the first station, if that is important to you. We travel by backpack so hopping at the local station is our way to go. Your mileage may vary.

A backpack doesn't work for this holiday, though we are good at packing light for other types of vacation.

This is the beginning of a 27 day trip, arrive Gatwick, 2 days London,( been there before) , then 11 days Ireland, fly to Edinburgh, (been to the highlands before) 3 nights Scottish Borders, and 11 days in England including York, the Midlands to see one side of the family and a week in Shropshire (more family) and the Welsh borders, fly home from Manchester.
