AirBnBs for Lonfon

Hello,

What is a good site to look for accommodations for a family of 6 for a week in May?

London Perfect or Vrbo or AirBnB. Premiere Inn. Travelodge.

It’s not an inexpensive city. Be sure you stay with in TFL zone 1 or you will loose time and money on transit.

You do realize the Kings Coronation is May 6. Massive crowds will arrive before and stay after. Prices for lodging will be high.

Also check for serviced apartments or “aparthotels”. These are hotel-like in that there is a reception desk and other amenities, but the rooms are apartments with full kitchens and one or two bedrooms.

We like Marlin Queen Street for location—-right near St. Paul’s.

A two-bedroom apartment with sofa bed, sleeping six, will be £418 in May if you join their “club” (free). They have other locations as well; Tower Hill/Aldgate is a bit further from the center but offers a2-bdr apartment for £218/nt mid-week in May.

Also check Citadines Trafalgar Square; they have 2-bdr apartments.

You can find more suggestions for Aparthotels in this blog:

I suggest you also read her linked article “Why I don’t recommend using AirBnB in London”. Short summary: in addition to the possibility scams or disappointment with owner-direct rentals, one should consider the adverse effect they have on locals, in terms of driving up housing costs.

TFL is Transport for London, the organisation that operates London’s public transport. The network has concentric zones from zone 1 centrally out to zone 6 where Heathrow is and beyond. The advice was to make sure that you stay in zone 1. My view is that anywhere in zones 1 or 2 is generally OK.

If you find a place you like on Airbnb or VRBO, put the link in at www.hichee.com It will automatically search the photos, etc and find where the unit may be listed elsewhere, including booking.com, airbnb, vrbo, and sometimes direct listings with the host. There are frequently different rates and fees for each platform - we saved quite a bit on a place in London by booking it through booking.com instead of airbnb.

I would absolutely recommend the place we stayed but it's already booked.

In the past I also used www.aplacelikehome.co.uk but they don't seem to have spaces for large groups, or at least didn't for the time we were traveling (around Easter).

Thank you for the ideas. I found a place at aplacelikehome and am waiting on an answer to my enquiry. They are not open on the weekends.

We went ahead and reserved a place near the Fulham Broadway tube station with the option to cancel. Is that a decent ride time into downtown?
